"History repeats itself" By: Wyvern E-Mail: Wyvern994@aol.com This is shortly after Goliath, Angela, Elisa, and Bronx leave Avalon Island bound for home. The mists seemed to take longer to clear after they left Avalon, but eventually the mists cleared and their next destination was revealed. They did not know what to expect, but as the mists cleared, Elisa could have swore she saw skyscrapers and had arrived in New York finally. She became even more excited when her hopes were answered. They had, indeed, arrived in a city. "Finally, we're home!" Elisa exclaimed. Angela let out a quiet "wow!" as she saw the skyline. Goliath showed a bit of apprehension as he looked around. "Let's not get our hopes up yet." he said. Goliath slowed the skiff as they approached a harbour. They tied the skiff to the dock and began to explore their surroundings. "Come on, let's hurry!" Elisa said as she began to walk faster toward the city. Goliath grabbed Elisa be the arm and pointed to a nearby sign. It was a road sign that had the shape of Florida on it. Angela looked at Elisa. "What does it mean?" she asked, with no idea what was going on. Elisa sighed. "We're not in New York." she said, very dissapointed. Angela shook her head. "So where are we?" she asked. "Somewhere in Florida. Can't tell where just from a road sign." Elisa responded. The group wandered toward the city, dissapointed that they weren't home. When they had reached the city, they tried their best to stay out of sight. They found the nearest building and climbed up. When they reached the top, they took a few minutes to look around. Elisa couldn't resist a smle. "I told Derrick I would visit Florida eventually." she said with a grin. Goliath gave her a funny look. "What do you mean?" Angela asked. "He thought it was funny that the only vacation that I would get was Six Flags." Elisa said, still grinning. Angela was confused. "Six Flags?" she asked. Elisa came out of her trance of staring at the city skyline and looked at Angela who was giving her a strange look. "Oh, sorry. Six Flags is the name of an amusement park in Virginia. Just south of here. I've been there twice. It's okay. But I've always wanted to come to Florida for the beaches. I hear it's very relaxing." Elisa said with a sigh. Suddenly, Goliath saw something in the distance. "Look!" he said, pointing. Elisa and Angela looked, squinting, at what Goliath was pointing at. They could just make out a pair of wings silhouetted against the moon. "We have to follow. But keep your distance. Wait until they land." Goliath said. Goliath picked up Bronx and Angela carried Elisa. They jumped off the building and stayed with the mysterious gargoyle in the distance. They made sure to keep what seemed like at least 500 feet away from the gargoyle for at least an hour. As they followed, they assumed he was on patrol. He had similar patrol patterns the Wyvern clan used to patrol New York. He stopped to rest occasionally on a rooftop as he surveyed the city. It had been a quiet night and it was dawn was about an hour away. The gargoyle jumped off the building and headed in a direction that seemed to be off his pattern. Goliath guessed that he was heading home for the day. Goliath was right. They made sure that they wouldn't be spotted as they watched the gargoyle land on a building and was welcomed by the rest of his clan. Goliath thought this was a good time to show himself to the clan. They landed on a nearby rooftop. Goliath thought that it would be a good idea to show himself alone first. "Stay here until I know it's safe." Goliath said. "Be careful." Elisa said. Goliath noddedand jumped off the building and headed toward the unknown clan. As Goliath neared the building, the gargoyles saw him. Goliath landed and cloaked his wings. "Do not be afraid. I am a friend. My name is Goliath." he said. A gargoyle walked toward him and extended a hand. "Welcome." he said with a smile. Goliath was relieved that they were friendly. "I was hoping to meet other gargoyles. But this city isn't safe for gargoyles anymore." the gargoyle said. "Why is that?" Goliath asked. The gargoyle looked at the skyline and frowned. "I will have to explain later. It's nearly dawn." he said. "I have others with me. I was going to talk with you first before I introduced them to your clan." Goliath said, pointing to the rooftop where Angela and Elisa were. "A wise decision." the gargoyle said. Goliath motioned for Angela and Elisa to join them. Angela carried Elisa to the rooftop and Bronx walked. He climbed the building with ease. "This is Angela, Elisa, and Bronx." Goliath said, introducing his party to the clan. "Welcome." the clan leader said. "I'm afraid any more conversation will have to wait. It's dawn." he added. At that the gargoyles prepared themselves for the coming sun and they were turned to stone. Elisa thought it would be a good idea to look around the city while the gargoyles slept. The city wasn't that much different from New York, but it wasn't the same, obviously. She toured the many shops and walked along the crowded, busy streets that are a part of every city. She became very homesick with this and decided to head back to where the gargoyles were sleeping and decided she could probably use the sleep herself. Elisa arrived back at the home of the gargoyles about two hours before sunset and she made herself comfortable on the ground next to where the gargoyles slept. She hadn't slept well for a while and it was a welcome opportunity. She was awaken by the sounds of roaring gargoyles that had just woke up from stone hibernation and walked over to where Goliath was. " was looking around and this city is very much like New York." She told Goliath. He just smiled and the clan leader invited them inside. Everyone made themselves comfortable inside as they began their conversation. The clan asked about Elisa first. Goliath told them about their trip to Avalon and how they are trying to get home to New York. While Goliath and the clan leader were talking, Elisa was telling Angela about her trip around the city. Angela seemed to take great interest and wanted to explore further. When Elisa was done, Angela approached Goliath. "Can I look around Goliath? I won't go far." She asked hopefully. Goliath nodded. "You had better not go alone." the clan leader told her. "I will have my second show you around." The second in command of the clan stood and it was the same gargoyle that they were following last night. "If you'll come with me." he said gesturing toward the door. Angela and the second left and began to explore. There were many things to see. The second showed her the new football stadium that was just built. She seemed confused so he told her all about football and she understood. They glided past the beach and many other sites of the city. Angela seemed to like this city and wondered if New York was similar. Goliath thought that he should ask why the city was unsafe for gargoyles as the clan leader had stated last night. "It's because of the Hunters. They've been here for about a month now and they have almost killed a member of my clan. They are apparently 'hunting' gargoyles." he said grimly. Goliath frowned. "I cannot understand why humans must constantly attack us." Goliath said. "It's becoming tiresome." The clan leader just nodded his agreement. The clan leader thought that it was time for a more positive subject. "So, how many members are in your clan?" he asked Goliath. "There are seven now that Angela has joined us. She lived on Avalon and she decided to come with us to New York." Goliath told the leader. "This clan has ten members. Most of us stay here while the others go on patrol." he said. Angela and the second decided to head back to the clan's home. They were about a mile away when Angela spotted a strange aircraft. "What's that?" she asked the second while pointing. "Oh no. We need to hurry. That's the Hunter's aircraft." he said while moving his wings to glide faster. Angela wasn't sure what was going on so she decided to take his word for it and follow his actions. They were able to return to the clan's home without incident. As Angela and the second walked in the room with the rest of the clan, the second told the clan leader of their sighting. "It might be best to stay out of sight." Goliath suggested. The clan leader shook his head in dissagreement. "We can't do that. If the Hunters are out there then someone needs to stop them." he said. Goliath thought about the situation for a moment. "What if we go to stop them and the rest of you stay here to guard your home?" Goliath asked. The clan leader thought it over and agreed. "It's a good idea, but I want to give you a guide. I'll have my second show you around. He knows where he's going." he said. Goliath realized that he did not yet know their names yet and asked. "We don't have names." the leader responded. "The previous clan leader wanted to follow in the footsteps of our elders and that means no names." Goliath understood. His clan was the same way once. After a short good-bye, Goliath, Angela, Elisa, Bronx, and the clan's second headed out to find and stop the Hunters from finding any gargoyles in the area. Goliath understood why the clan leader selected his second to guide them. He knew the city well. It wasn't long before they found the Hunter's air vehicle hovering over a rather small building. Almost like a warehouse. Goliath motioned to keep quiet and to approach from the rear. They found the rear hatch and pried it open. As soon as they did so, however, alarms went off throughout the whole ship. It wasn't long before three humans wearingstrange armor and masks showed up. They began to fire at the group with strange weapons. Goliath grabbed the leader and threw him against the wall. He was knocked unconcious. The other two, a male and female, began to walk backwards still shooting. The second ran toward the male on all fours and pounced on him. The weapon was knocked free from his grasp and the second delivered a devastating punch to his stomach. The female hunter pulled out s strange looking ball out of a pouch on her hip. She tossed it and ran. It was a smoke bomb. It wasn't long before it blew and left the room filled with gas. Sleeping gas. An hour later, the gargoyles woke up in a cell. They looked around for their captors to no avail. They weren't there. It was a strange looking ship. Goliath wondered where they got their hands on something like this. The second was examining the cell carefully and soon he had picked the lock on the cell. "That was too easy." he said to himself when he opened the cell. Angela checked down the nearest hallway. "All clear." she said. They began to slowly walk down the hallway. Goliath took the point while the second watched the rear. Elisa looked down at her watched and gasped. "We need to get out of here. It's nearly dawn!" she said. They started to quicken their pace. They came across a hatch that leaded outside and Goliath made a mental note to remember it. Soon Goliath found a strange looking door and he put his ear next to it to listen for anything inside. He could hear the voices of people talking inside and he looked back at the second who nodded. It was clear. They were going to attack. They had to. Goliath ripped the door open and the whole group ran in to attack. The Hunters were a little surprised but they were able to each draw a weapon. It was a short fight considering the Hunters were outnumbered but they put up a good fight. Goliath had pinned the leader against the control panel and the hunter managed to pull a bomb of some sort out of his pouch and it didn't ook like it was going to be a smoke bomb. Goliath saw it. "We need to get out!" he screamed and they headed for the hatch they had found earlier. Goliath ripped the hatch open and the group jumped out of the aircraft and glided away. They looked back and saw the bridge section of the aircraft explode. Oddly enough, it didn't go down. Suddenly they heard someone screaming,"This isn't over!" Goliath just shook his head. They looked at the horizon and saw that it was nearly dawn so they decided to land on the nearest rooftop. It was just in the nick of time because as soon as they landed, the sun rose transforming the gargoyles to stone. Elisa watched the airship fly away. She watched it as long as she could without following it. When it was out of sight she decided to rest. She sat down on the ground, leaning on Goliath in his stone form and she began to doze off. She was getting used to being nocturnal. Elisa woke up a few minutes before the gargoyles did and it took her a few minutes to "wake up". She stretched and yawned as the gargoyles broke free of their stone prisons and greeted them with a tired smile. "Rise and shine!" Elisa said. The phrase was becoming her trademark. Goliath looked around for the airship. "I take it the hunters left." Goliath said. "I wonder what happened top them." Angela said. "They probably went back into hiding." the second added. "This is their normal attack pattern. Attack and dissapear for a while. It's becoming annoying." Goliath just sighed. "Let's be going." he said. The group jumped off the building and headed back towards the clan's home. As they approached the building, Goliath got a strange feeling that something wasn't right. They landed and went inside. "Brothers, we're back." the second called out to his clan. Silence. He called out again with the same results. When they opened the door to the clan's living quarters they recieved a shock. The clan was gone. Replaced with stone rubble. The group was silent. The second approached the rubbe with grreat sadness and slowly picked up some of the rocks on the floor with tear filled eyes. Angela found a note on the couch. It was from the hunters. It read: Monsters, I told you that it wasn't over. Rest assured, you're next. The Hunter. The second let out a roar of anger. He turned to go after the hunters but Goliath stopped him. "You can't fight them now. They'll know you're coming." he said. The second just looked at Goliath and his eyes stopped glowing. He turned to face his destroyed clan and dropped to his knees, sobbing like a hatchling. Angela knelt down next to him, comforting him for his loss. Goliath knew his pain all too well. "It's all my fault. I should have protected them." the second began repeating to himself. Goliath knelt down next to him. "There was nothing you could have done. You can't blame yourself." he said. The second looked at Goliath. "What am I going to do? I can't protect this city by myself." he said. Goliath thought for a minute. "Believe me, I know how you feel. My clan was destroyed the same way. Very few survived." Goliath let the words hang for a minute. "Why don't you come with us. You can join my clan." Goliath told him. The second looked at Goliath and for a moment, he was calm. "Join your clan? You would accept me into your clan? You barely even know me." the second responded. Goliath just nodded. "I know what you are going through. No one should be alone." The second wiped his eyes and stood. The second looked at Angela and Elisa, who nodded their agreement with Goliath. "Alright. I accept. But I will never forget what has happened here and I can guarantee the Hunters will pay." the second responded coldly. Goliath leaded the way out of the building and they headed for the skiff, which was still docked where they had left it. As they climbed aboard, the second looked back at the city. "Good-bye my friends." he said with great sadness. He sat down and stared at the water as Goliath began to row the skiff away from the city. Thesecond watched as the city grew hazy when Goliath began to recite the spell that would deliver them to Avalon and out of the lives of his clan forever. THE END
