The Immutability of the Flow of Time Within the Phantom Saga. Time in the Saga Phantom of the Night is immutable. In the Saga, time is often out of wack when there are in fact two different times in which the same woman was born, once nearly three hundred years ago in England, the second in the late half of the 1970's in the United States. Christine Shelton was conceived to human parents in the year 1977. She had been alive in her mother's womb for only a short while, yet her soul was clearly intact enough on a magical level for a magical entity to remove her soul move backwards in time nearly 300 years to the year 1658. Now, a physical thing in the realm of magic may exist outside the usual laws of physics. In this case the same physical entity -- Christine's physical self -- was conceived in the form of a gargoyle. Normally the laws of probability would discount such a thing, but this was (after all) magic, but there is another reason which we shall learn of later. This entity displaced Christine's mind to that of the developing gargoyle child. After the pregnancy, she developed for ten years inside her egg, before hatching in the year 1669. There, young "Malcora" grew up gargoyle. There were some very serious incidents in her life surrounding her study of magic (her magical nature give her a certain talent for it), which led to being executed by burning at the stake, bound in chains. "Shakespeare" a covert magical entity (although he would claim credit for displacing Christine backwards in time, he is in fact not responsible for this) froze Christine's body in her stone form permanently to prevent her death by fire in the year 1969. The entity responsible for transporting Christine backwards in time was a young Fey woman named "Sharm". She had created, using a combination of human magic and Fey magic, a powerful magical talisman with a Phoenix emblazoned upon it, in the year 38 A.D. It had the ability to do as the humans had dreamed, to move through time and space at will of thought. She used it, and her power, in the removal and replacement of Christine's spirit. During the interim time, Sharm allowed a large secret organization to take possession of this talisman, The "Phoenix Gate" as it came to be called, and was never returned. Christine remained trapped in her stone form physically. However, Sharm had met her goals for Christine by this time, removed her from the frozen stone form, and kept her (she no longer had the Phoenix Gate) soul in a small silver pendant until the appropriate time to return her to her original body. However, Christine's mother also had some unusual characteristics that must be examined. In the year 1984, Terra Shelton, Christine's mother, encountered a clan of gargoyle who were in danger of hunting, and she saved them. However, the covert Fey who were hunting them demanded Terra give the gargoyle up to them. She refused, and the evil Fey responded by trying to murder her in an "accidental" automotive accident in the year 1991. However, a trio of unusual Fey known as "The Weird Sisters" began to take charge of a quest which Sharm had started. Sharm had since been imprisoned, and the Weird Sisters were forced to take over for her, and were very put out about it (they had never exactly gotten along well). Using the Phoenix Gate tool which they had obtained from a clan in New York. Using it, they rescued Terra from her car only moments before the car was obliterated. Terra was moved backwards in time to the year 1653, where she was transformed into a gargoyle. In five years, she got over her loss of her old life, and took a mate and conceived a child who was, in truth, the same Christine, which was named Malcora by the humans. Malcora was "executed" for trespasses in her magical arts years later. Terra, now being called by the name of "Tutela", a name also given her by the humans of ancient Spain visiting England, also had other children by this same mate. She lived for many years, until the lordship of the castle no longer had an heir. A neighboring kingdom wanted to take it, and when they attacked, they would destroy all of the gargoyles that were there, during their stone sleep. Tutela's children and their mates had departed with the Spaniards to Spain and were not present when they attacked. The Weird Sisters intervened, and Tutela was transformed into a incorporeal being when her stone form was destroyed. Tutela, still oblivious to the change, thinking it was a dream, tried to stop the human from destroying the stone remains of Malcora. Malcora was damaged, but not destroyed. Two other gargoyles who were not destroyed were called Lisonja and Macaren. Due to the interference of Shakespeare, they were transformed into humans, and forgot their past life. They lived, almost immortally with the shape shifter, through time until the present. Malcora (or Christine) within Sharm's pendant, lived forward through time until Christine was returned to herself in the future. Tutela (or Terra), disembodied, guarded Christine throughout the years, and continued to do so as Christine grew up a normal human child, until the explorer was sent from Oberon to being the dark war.
