Action FigureProjects!
Really sick ideas of things to do withyour
action figures!

Projectone:
Need: 1 "Blaze" Ghost Rider Figure, 1 MacbethGargoyles
Figure, Projectile from Demona's gun, Superglue or Model Planeglue (something
that works on hard plastic.), Testor's Model paints oracrilics, Primer,
a sharp knife, sealant, bandaids. Objective: Createa better
MacBeth figure than Kenner. (Dr. Sevarious is VERY disappointedwith the
MacBeth figure.) Please read the instructions carefully beforebeginning.
- Step one: If you are a kid, or prone to acidents DO NOT proceed.Angela
and lots of other people are in NO way responsible if you happento harm
yourself during this project.
- Step two: Take both figures out of their boxes. Decapitate Blazeand
MacBeth. How? Grasp the Blaze figure firmly and stretch his neck outas
far as you can. You want to leave as much neck attached to the headas possible
when you start cutting. Saw off his head. The Blaze figureis easier to
decapitate, cuase he's made out of softer plastic than MacBeth.NOw proceed
to decapitate MacBeth. Remember to stretch his neck reallyfar and cut as
far down as possible so you leave a long neck attached toMacBeth's head.
- Step Three: Throw Blaze's head in the trash (or the oven andwatch
it melt...whatever is you fancy..perhaps give it to your Demona figurefor
her to play around with.) You can trash MacBeth's body too, or keepit around...the
body without the head is pretty creepy and fun to playwith. The only thing
you need to keep is Blaze's body and MacBeth's head.
- Step Four: Spray on the sealant...try a flat grey or white sealant.Do
not get your finger prints on the figure. I've seen some people drilla
hole in the figure's foot and stick a nail in it to hang the figure upsidedown
for it to dry. Make sure you do this _before_ you put on MacBeth'shead.
If not, simply cover MacBeth's head in masking tape. Also, coverany parts
of Blaze's body that you do not intend to repaint later, (likethe hands)
in masking tape. Make sure you get underneath his trench coatwith the sealant
if you plan to paint that area. Let it dry.
- Step FIve: You'll need to find a peice of long plastic witha
small end and a larger end. I used Demona's projectile from her gun. You'll
need to cut it so that you can stuff the fat end into Blaze's bodyand then
attach MacBeth's head to the smaller end. This way his head won'tfall off.
You'll have to use glue to attach MacBeth's head to the projectile.Be carefull
not to let the projectile peice fall into Blaze's body untilMacbeth's head
is firmly attached and the glue is dry.
- Step Six: Being very carefull, get the Testors (or acrilics)out
and paint the body to match MacBeth's cloths. I would suggest dilutingthe
paint (if you are using Testor's) slightly with turpentine. Don't usetoo
much of that stuff, or you'll get paint soup. You may have to do morethan
one coat, but if you get it too thick in one coat it will never dryand
just stay sticky till doomsday. Remember that if you mess up simplytake
some turpentine and wipe off the paint. I would suggest doing allthis in
a well ventilated area.
- Step SEven: Use the spray on sealant to complete your work.Beware,
if you used metalic paints the sealant may mess them up.
- Step Eight:admire your handywork and be carefull with the headin
your action figure playing.
Project Two: One Demona from Gargoyles. Fine grain sandpaper,
X-acto knife, Testors or acrilic paints, sealant, Primer, Sculpeyor Milliput,
bandaids, and coper wire (optional). Objective: Createa Angela out
of a Demona figure.
- Step one: Once again, if you hurt yourself it's not my fault.
- Step two: Sand down Demona's gold shoulder pads. Start by shavingat
them with the X-acto knife, but be very carefull not to shavetoo
deep. Smooth out the shoulders with course and then fine sand paper.Do
the same with her anklet and arm band. Be extra carefull in shavingthese
since they are so small your finger could easily slip and cut offtoo much
of the figure.. or too much of your hand. >:) If you want youcould smooth
out her hands (knuckles) a bit too make her look less oldand battle-hardened.
Demona's crown will stay however. Angela's foreheadlooks just like Demona's
crown, so simply leave it there. You could alsoshave down a little "V"-shape
in Demona's top-peice of her clothing. This will be the spot where Angela's
lil criss-crossed laces go.
- Step Three: Add modeling to the figure. Chose whether you intendto
use Milliput or Sculpey. Follow the instructions..I've never used Milliput,so
I'll just show you how to do it with Sculpey. The modeling process isapproximately
the same. Take the Sculpey and create the other shoulderstrap of Angela's
outfit. (Demona has one shoulder strap, Angela has two.)Also add Sculpey
to Demona's belly area making a smooth transition fromher top to the belt
so that it looks like one peice instead of Demona'stwo-peice. Use water
or wet fingers to smooth out the Sculpey.
- Step Four: Bake Demona in the oven according to the box of Sculpey. You
may try cooking the figure at a slightly lower heat for a longer time(so
that the figure doesn't melt). I would keep an eye on the figurethroughout
it's baking process, and take it out if it starts to look strange.
- Step Five: Take out the figure, and its hot... Move all thejoints
so that they don't freeze together, and then submerge the figurequickly
in cold water to firm it back up.
- Step Six: Prime the figure. Be sure to mask of the inside ofher
wings, since Angela's wings are the same color inside as Demona's.Also,
if you are afraid to paint her face...I would mask off her lips andeyes
with "latex mold builder" available at most art supply stores.I
would suggest white primer. Let it dry.
- Step Seven: Mix up some light violet paint. (it should be slightlygrey
in color...watch gargoyles for reference.) You'll also need lighttan for
her outfit, black for her hair and back of her wings. Her beltis a hunter
green with a slight tint of blue. Repaint the belt buckle goldand her earings.
Paint her eyes white or red depending on her mood, andpaint her lips. Add
pupils if you wish with a small brush or a needle tip.You may add the coper
wire on her left wrist as a bracelet, or just simplypaint a gold one on.
- Step eight: Seal the figure and you are done...now if onlythat
Broadway figure wasn't so ugly.
Figures you should buy to do "repaints" and surgery on.
- Spider Woman in Black Widow Gear. Would make a nice Elisa Maza...or
any female for that matter, get creative. Try Talia, Batgirl or Harleyfrom
BTAS. Big incentive is knee and elbow joints. stock up on these tohave
fun with. Kaybee was have'n a sale on them last time I checked.
- Psylocke. I'm thinking Titania... Elisa...I don't know. It'sa
nice figure, it has knee joints. stock up.
- Phoenix . Demona as a human. this figure even has glowing eyes.perfect.
- Voodoo. Titania perhaps again...any female. Voodoo is completelyunadorned,
which makes her simple to customize. Chop her head off, addSculpey to her
"basic" body.. whatever. She's great!
- Void. Any female really...but void is bald, so you'll have toeither
pick a bald female or add hair to the figure.
- Bane BTAS . Hey, how bout Ra's al Ghul's flunky Ubu? Try a ToyBiz
Prof. X head.
- Data or Picard in 1940's attire. This figure (data) makes anexcellent
Owen. Picard or Data make great "regular" people cuaseof their
buisness suits. I'm still thinking about decapitating a Data orPicard and
giving him a Xanatos head. Data, in order to be Owen... I thinkyou might
just try adding Sculpey to Data's head. If not, lop Data's headoff and
model a Owen head from Scratch. As to Xanatos, find a GargoylesXanatos
figure and use it for parts.
- Demona from Gargoyles of course. >:) This one makes a perfectAngela
with just minor amounts of work. In fact if you have a hankeringto do some
modeling attempt turning Demona into Ophelia Delilah, Desdemona,or even
Elisa as a gargoyle. For Elisa...you'll probably have to loosethe Demona
head. You could take an Elisa head and switch them, or takea SpiderWoman
head and use it with Demona's body. Just add some modelingclay to the "human"
face to make it gargoyle. You could alsotry "shaving down" Demona's
hair with an X-acto knife and thenadding a bit of Sculpey to the Demona
head, once you make her bald.
- Stone Armor Goliath Makes a perfect Thailog with no modelingor
surgery, just paint. This ones a piece of cake and looks totally awesome. It's
a blast to pit the two against each other. Uncanny actually. StoneArmor
Goliath is best becuase he has no weird extra armor stuff like mostof the
other Goliath figures. He is the most "standard" Goliath. In fact
with some modeling you could fairly easily add Thailog's authenticbattle
armor. Try making a Kai (japanese gargoyle leader) or a Jade (thegreen
gargoyle in "The Green"). IF you can't find a Stone ArmorGoliath,
you can always grab one of those funky "weather control"or "battle
double" gargoyles. The Fire Storm Goliath, Griffinand Minotaur are
all standard Goliath's except for the funky wings.
Tips
- Remember to use thin coats when painting figures. Especially when usingTestor's
or other "model" paints. The same goes for acrilics.
- When using acrilics, always use a sealant (preferably a spray sealant.)after
you are totally finished painting, otherwise the paint will chip(no kidding,
it happened to my Thailog). Chose a matte or shining sealantbased on your
preference.
- Use a sealant on other paints if it does not dry completely. (as inthe
paint remains tacky days after you finished painting). Of course ifyou
had used thinner coats it would not dry tacky. :)
- Try diluting model paints like Testors with paint thinner to get aless
tacky paint.
- When modeling with Sculpey, follow the directions on the box...butif
you aren't carefull the figure will melt when you bake it. Try bakingon
a low heat for a longer period or using a blow dryer. If you do usea low
heat or blow dryer... you may have to be extra carefull with yourfinal
figure, as the clay may not harden completely.
- Sculpey should be used for larger peices, small Scupley peices (liketails
and Batman's lil pokey ears) will break VERY easily. Use cardstockfor small
armor peices like this and coat the cardstock with glue to makeit more
sturdy. Or try Milliput.
- Always be on the look out for figures to canibalize. Pick a characteryou
want to do and find the parts for it. Arms, heads, lower legs, hats,accesories...you
name it. If you can't find it, sculpt it.
- Use really small brushes for details...sometimes even a needle tipfor
really small stuff like pupils of eyes.
- Never pay alot for a figure you plan to cut apart. (this means no $30unless
you are loaded.) Cuase you may mess up and then where does thatleave you?
(I'll tell you. Set back $30 and with a figure that you mauledwith a Dremel
tool and little heads all over the floor.) Find cheap figuresto have fun
with.
