The origins of the Weird Sisters are lost in the mists of time. They are three of the Children of Oberon, classically beautiful women, going by the names of Luna, Phoebe and Selene. They are physically identical, except for their hair color, Luna's being pure white, Phoebe's strawberry-blonde and Seline's the darkest black. The immortal Sisters' motives and actions are constantly a mystery to whomever they come in contact with. In the year 995, they were serving as the Guardians of Oberon's Isle, Avalon. They confronted the Magus, Princess Katharine, and company on their way to that island, and attempted to stop them. As they were about to cast a curse upon them that would turn the travellers into owls, the Magus used the Grimorum Arcanorum to reflect the curse onto the Sisters, who themselves were turned into owls. The Magus then continued on to Avalon with Princess Katharine and Tom. They watched, frustrated and helpless. Immediately afterward, the Archmage appeared, seeking to gain new allies for himself and reverted them to their normal selves, asking them to retrieve the Grimorum Arcanorum, the Eye of Odin, and the Phoenix Gate. They at first refused his offer of allying themselves with him, then relented when he promised they could have a chance at revenge. They cared not how long it took, for what was time to they who were immortal? In the year 1020, they were approached by the Archmage and his younger self, and told to protect Demona and MacBeth and "guide their course." They took this very basic order and proceeded to interweave the lives of Demona and MacBeth in a complex tapestry that would apparently last for all time. Demona was by then leading the tattered remnants of the Scottish gargoyles and weary and frustrated at her fugitive life. At the same time, the Sisters also watched the strife growing between MacBeth and Gillecomgain (the true identity of the Hunter) over the Lady Gruoch. Appearing to Demona as three elderly gargoyles, through cryptic words and mysterious apperences they cajoled Demona into appearing at Moray, to save MacBeth's life twice from the Hunter's sword. Already, a young MacBeth and an aging Demona had learned of each other and had formed a bond of sorts through their mutual enemies. When King Duncan rose to power, the Sisters once again appeared, as three hags, to both MacBeth and Duncan, and their sons, Luach and Canmore. They referred to both Duncan AND MacBeth as "King of Scotland and father of the king hereafter." MacBeth claimed that Duncan was the rightful king, not him. The hags vanished into the mist, admonishing MacBeth for lecturing 'them' on Fate, and MacBeth dismissed their words as nothing to be concerned of. Duncan appeared to accept this as well, but it only reinforced his suspicions of MacBeth. These were compounded when MacBeth stopped Duncan from destroying Demona and her clan earlier in the day, signaling to Duncan that MacBeth was indeed one that needed dispatching. Both Demona and MacBeth were threatened by the same enemy, and needed each other to survive, although they did not realize it at the time. Whether the Sisters manipulated all these events to bring the two together is unknown. Eventually, in the year 1040, King Duncan and his armies, atttacked MacBeth's Clan of Moray. At the same time, Demona had suffered a massive blow to to her clan by the Hunter, (now, in reality, King Duncan) and was more than ever gripped by rage and frustration in her life. She wished she was young and strong again so that she could deal with the threat of the humans. MacBeth rode to seek her aid in saving his clan, for he suspected the gargoyle that had saved his life could do so again. They met and argued, and suddenly the Weird Sisters appeared, and asked what each wanted. Demona longed for her youth, while MacBeth said he would give anything to save his family. The Weird Sisters then linked hands around and cast a powerful spell that gave MacBeth's vitality and youth to Demona, and in return, Demona would ally with him against his enemies. The Weird Sisters, unknown to the two, magically linked them so each would feel each other's pain, and neither would be able to die unless one destroyed the other. They then gave MacBeth a magical globe and told him that Duncan had ordered his father's murder, and disappeared into the mists. The Sisters did not make another apperance until the year 1057, once more as three hags, to MacBeth and Gruoch to chillingly relate the true nature of their spell to them before disappearing into the mists. The reasons for them casting the spell are still unknown. Likely, they have their own agenda for Demona and MacBeth that goes beyond that of the Archmage. For the next 938 years, they did not make an appearance in the mortal realm until their first sighting by the gargoyles at a terrorist breakup in the year 1995. They appeared as three little girls and stated ominously that if Goliath ever forgot every life is precious, he would become like "her". Goliath protested that he would never become like the lady terrorist they had stopped, and the little girls corrected him, saying they were not talking about "this terrorist." They then vanished mysteriously. A night later, after a scheme of Demona's had turned everyone in the city to stone, Goliath and Brooklyn examined rubble left by one of Demona's rampages. This understandably threw Goliath into a rage, fearing one of them could be Elisa. They were then startled by seeing the three little girls as statues. One spoke mysteriously, saying that yes, Demona must be stopped, but Goliath should remember his own words, that all life is precious. They warned him not to become what he is fighting against, and that vengence begets nothing but a vicious cycle of further vengence. They then crumpled when Brooklyn tapped the stone head of one of the little girls. They next appeared on the next night, in Xanatos's castle, right as MacBeth was about to slay Demona in vengeance for all her treachery and to end his miserable, immortal existence. In their hag guise, they stopped him by noting every instance where he sought vengeance, and pointing out that it had never truly set things right. In a shaken state, only wanting to end it all, he lowered Demona to the ground and the Sisters surrounded him, putting him to sleep. They next raised Demona to consciousness and put her into a trance, revealing her inner self, where she finally admitted all the wrongs she had committed she had brought upon herself, and that she was utterly alone. They then put her to sleep as well, as Goliath and Xanatos watched, dumbfounded and fascinated as the Three in their child forms teleported Demona and MacBeth away in a blazing flash of light, citing that their story was "for another day." Their motives for what this had to do in relation to their mission from the Archmage are entirely unknown. The Sisters next made their agenda known by secretly placing a spell on Demona and MacBeth, compelling them to work together to reactivate Coldstone, and to distract the gargoyles from their true purpose, which was to retrieve the Grimorum Arcanorum, the Eye of Odin, and the Phoenix Gate. Once this was done, they transported the magical artifacts and the ensorcelled Demona and MacBeth away. Later, they appeared with their immortal children, on the barge off of Avalon, where the Archmage waited with his younger self. They gave the artifacts to him, and then they proceeded to attack Avalon along with him and Demona and MacBeth, forcing the Guardian Tom to seek Goliath's aid. In the ensuing battles, the Weird Sisters managed to slay the Magus, but not before he encircled them in iron chains, binding the three fay helplessly. They were then forced to release their geas on Demona and MacBeth, and after doing so, they were then set free. Much later, when Goliath and company returned to Avalon, the Sisters arrived with Lord Oberon and Queen Titania, spinning a tale that they had warned the humans and gargoyles on the isle to leave. They teleported away with Queen Titania after she had reduced Oberon's power for a contest between Oberon and Goliath, Angela, and Gabriel, and reappeared when he had lost this battle. They appeared to have many more agendas in mind as they teleported away once again after everything returned to normal. After the Gathering began, they served as Oberon's lackeys, transporting fay back to Avalon who had not heeded the call of the Gathering, as they did with the Banshee. They offered to hunt down Puck with menace, indicating no love is lost between the siblings. Much of the Weird Sisters' actions do not match their cryptic words, and they most likely have a hidden agenda known only to them. The three continue to be enigmatic and mysterious to all, and very possibly, a threat to whomever they take an interest in. |
